Whether it?s?commercial, recreational, or ?sport fishing,?anglers can take advantage of the more than 400?publicly accessible lakes, ponds and reservoirs available in New Jersey. Along with April showers, the spring season also brings large numbers of striped bass and American shad to New Jersey waters for anglers to take advantage of. The fluke, also known as summer flounder, is probably the most sought after fish in New Jersey. Sandy Hook, which is part of the National Park Service Gateway National Recreation Area is a great place to fish for fluke. The?Manasquan River,?Double Creek Channel, and?Northern Bay are also popular places to take advantage of fluke during the summer season which usually starts around May.
There are also more than 8,000 miles of freshwater streams available for fishing. For example, Bass River State Forest is?a popular site in New Jersey and freshwater species there are mainly pickerel, sunfish, and catfish.

Private land hunting has become more scarce over the years, leaving avid hunting enthusiasts scratching their heads and wondering where they can hone in on their craft. The great thing about New Jersey is that more public land is progressively becoming available for hunting. According to the New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife, New Jersey offers sportsmen and women more than 500,000 acres of state-owned public open space. This total includes more than 331,000 acres in 121?Wildlife Management Areas, specifically managed to enhance wildlife populations and provide for wildlife-oriented recreation.
For example, Allamuchy Mountain State Park ?has an available 6,122 acres available for hunting deer, small game, turkey, and water fowl. Cheesequake State Park offers a special deer hunt area totaling 900 acres open to special permit holders for those interested solely in deer hunting. Turkey, small game and waterfowl are also available for hunting at this park. Hunting season usually begins around September for Cheesequake State Park.
Sportsmen and women?can also enjoy more than one hundred days of deer hunting, including seasons for bow, shotgun and muzzleloading rifle. Check with your local state park for a list of available dates.

Our New Jersey Fishing, Hunting & Wildlife Guide allows users to get precise information on sites, species, and regulations, and much more. Once in the app, users are able to search listings of sites available for fishing or hunting at the press of a button. To see which sites are closest to you, simply press the ?Near Me? button for a listing of fishing and hunting facilities nearest your current location. ?Then, just click on the site of your choice for maps, directions, activities and species available.
Click Places Near Me to find the closest public land available for hunting or fishing.
Through the app, users will be able to see the type of game or fish species available at each site. The section titled ?Educational Programs? features?information on cool workshops and programs available throughout the state, including an informative ?Trout in the Classroom? program, where users can get hands-on experience on how to raise trout and actually watch these fish hatch from eggs and begin their life cycle.
